MIX Makers at Home: Moe Lewis

With the state-wide ‘stay home’ order intact, our MIX Maker Staff is not letting quarantine get in the way of their passion for making.

MIX Maker Moe Lewis has been using his time at home to work on many projects and setting up his Etsy shop, Clovers + Sun

Moe is currently in the middle of working on a variety of work projects which includes prototyping looms for the textile area at the MIX@Fenwick and is helping out with the planning and production of fabric facial masks to be donated to the local hospitals.

One of Moe’s personal projects is learning how to sew clothes from patterns. Part of his process is how to read and assemble the patterns for his clothing through trial and error – like assembling a printed pattern for a pair of shorts took him around half an hour to do correctly. He is planning to bring this new skill to the MIX when it reopens.

Moe is usually at the sewing station at the MIX@Fenwick teaching students how to use sewing machines and helping those in need when it comes to repairing ruined clothes during MIX Fix workshops. Moe hopes to bring a pattern library so he can have students experience making a pattern from scratch for future workshops and meetups.

Moe is also learning how to knit clothing.

He recently began to work on a scrap sweater using a ‘lemon curry’ sweater pattern and is planning to work on sewing harem pants and boudoir shorts next.

Moe is also hosting virtual meetups every Monday at 5:00 pm for the Needle Arts Guild. The Needle Arts Guild is a casual meetup for the sewing, knitting, embroidery, crochet, and fiber arts community. If you are interested, email us at mix@gmu.edu or message us on our social media accounts for the permanent meeting link.
