Getting Started with the CNC Router:

The basic requirement to use the CNC router is to take the CNC Workshop

  • This CNC router is large enough to handle a full sheet of plywood at a time. Features a 4 hp spindle, and is currently configured for cutting wood, plywood, foam, plastic.

  • This smaller format CNC router excels on smaller jobs. Capable of high precision cutting jobs on wood, plastic, aluminum and brass. Currently configured for working on metal.

  • Capable of cutting and engraving metals.

    Working area: 15.7” x 15.7” x 3.1”

    Instructor assistance required.

  • CNC Router Training class is required before use. CNC must be operated under supervision of the Fabrication Lab Manager.

  • AVID CNC Pro 4896:

    Work Area: 49.5”x98.75”x6.5”

    Cutting Speed: Up to 500 IPM

    Resolution: XY 0.0005”

    Z: 0.0002”

    Accuracy +/- 0.005” or better

    Shapeoko Pro XL:

    Work Area: 17.5”x33”x4”

    Cuts non-ferrous metals, such as: Aluminum, Brass, Copper

  • CAD/CAM Software: Vectric VCarve, available for use in the MIX.

    Control Software: Mach 4
