ADA Compliant Updates to the MIX during Winter Break

The MIX will be closed from December 16th to January 13th for Winter Break. During this time, the MIX is focusing on equipment repairs, maintenance, and reorganization to optimize our space for safety and address ADA compliance standards.
Additionally, MIX Manager, Dr. Max Kazemzadeh, joined Computer Science and HCI faculty to submit a National Science Foundation (NSF) "Broadening Participation" grant on December 10th to develop ADA compliant programs at the MIX and better serve Mason's diverse student population.

Some of the immediate points the MIX addressed are the walkways within the MIX. We will also test the makerspace labs and adjacent areas to ensure that users are able to access our labs accordingly.

  1. Signage: Various signage and alert systems will be installed to assist users with sensory impairments.

  2. MIX Staff training: Student staff will receive training on best practices regarding users that are in need of specific assistance.

  3. Promotion with Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Communicating with this office could open doors for specific workshops or tours with students of this community to test out the MIX space and equipment to provide feedback.

  4. Continued Adjustments to equipment and tools: Tools across the makerspace will be enhanced.
