HackRF

The HackRF is a popular, open-source software-defined radio (SDR) platform that allows users to transmit and receive radio signals across a wide range of frequencies. It is designed to be an affordable, versatile tool for experimentation and learning about radio frequency (RF) communication. HackRF is widely used in areas like wireless security research, RF engineering, software development, and hobbyist radio applications.

James Hope, a Senior Makerspace Associate, is hosting a HackRF Workshop at the MIX, where participants will explore the world of Software-Defined Radio (SDR). Each participant will be loaned an RTL-SDR for the duration of the workshop and guided through the basics of using SDR++ software.

The workshop will cover essential topics, including understanding waveforms, identifying and locating radio signals, navigating the frequency spectrum, and demodulating signals to listen to radio stations. James will also demonstrate signal transmission, giving participants the chance to find and demodulate a live transmitted signal.

Additionally, James will showcase real-world SDR projects, including his NOAA satellite antenna and the images captured using it, offering participants a deeper understanding of the diverse applications of SDR technology. This workshop is perfect for those interested in learning about wireless communication, signal processing, and SDR hardware.
